These photos are not staged... Each captures a fleeting moment, lost to the ages a few seconds later.
The Story: About ten years ago, R. sent M. a photo of a meal she was eating that seemed to be smiling back at the camera. A few weeks later, M. sent one back. Before long, the faces were popping up everywhere. It became difficult to get through a meal without stopping to capture facefoods.
So we set rules to cut down the volume, and to keep ourselves honest: "Play it as it lays". No moving or re-arranging the food – if we saw a face, we had to capture it using creative camera angles & framing alone... And no reproducing the face if, as often occurred, we noticed it just before it disappeared.
We even coined a term for the disappointment that comes from missing a good facefood: "prosopartum depression". (Though if we missed one because we ate it, that would be "postprandial depression".) And eventually, we started giving them names...
Many years and hundreds of foods later, we present them to you. Click below for a tasting menu from our collection.
WARNING: May cause facial pareidolia. Once you have seen, you cannot unsee...
